# Comment Deadline Extended for LASIK Labeling Guidance

FDA has extended by one month to 11/25 the deadline for comments on its draft [guidance](https://www.fdaweb.com/guide-on-lasik-patient-labeling-recommendations/) intended to help ensure that information is available to patients and healthcare professionals about the benefits and risks of LASIK devices that are used in vision correction.

The Broken Eyes patient group tells ***FDA Webview*** that its review of the comments submitted to data indicates that the LASIK industry has recruited LASIK surgeons who have had the procedure on their own eyes to submit comments. The group says many of the commenters appear to be using a template prepared by an industry stakeholder that outlines the industry-approved arguments against the proposed labeling.

Broken Eyes also claims it has determined that LASIK surgeons are soliciting comments from employees who have had free LASIK. The group says many of the comments refer to patient benefits from LASIK without any reference to the proposed labeling, raising the possibility that the commenters don’t realize they are being asked to oppose a labeling regulation.
