Comments Sought on Benefit/Risk Communications

FDA and the other members of the Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC) are seeking public comment until 9/13 on the group’s white paper “Best Practices for Communicating Benefit, Risk, and Uncertainty.” An MDIC notice (includes a link to the white paper) says the paper will be part of the group’s larger Framework for Patient Input in Medical Device Clinical Trials, expected to be published in the Fall of 2020.

“MDIC has worked to understand the best methods to assess patient preferences for benefit and risk in new technologies,” the notice says. “… This white paper aims to be a useful resource for all MDIC stakeholders, including researchers, regulators, clinicians, and patients.”
