# Committee Advances Pediatric Voucher Reauthorization

The House Energy and Commerce Committee has unanimously approved legislation to reauthorize FDA’s Rare Pediatric Disease Priority Review Voucher program, a move hailed by patient advocates and drug developers as a crucial step in sustaining incentives for treatments targeting rare childhood illnesses. The measure, called the *Creating Hope Reauthorization Act*, would extend the program through September 2029\. It now heads to the full House for consideration.

Established in 2011, the voucher program encourages pharmaceutical companies to develop therapies for rare pediatric diseases by awarding tradable priority review vouchers for qualifying drugs. Those vouchers can significantly shorten FDA’s review timeline for another product — an incentive that has drawn interest across the biopharmaceutical industry. To date, FDA has awarded 53 vouchers for therapies addressing 39 different conditions.
