# Confirmation Hearing on Gottlieb to be Planned Soon

Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pension committee chair **Lamar Alexander** (R-TN) says a confirmation hearing will be scheduled soon after the committee receives Office of Government Ethics paperwork on **Scott Gottlieb**’s nomination to head FDA. The former FDA deputy commissioner under **George W. Bush** was nominated earlier this month ([see story](https://www.fdaweb.com/gottlieb-nominated-by-trump-as-next-fda-head/)).

Last week, Alexander and Gottlieb met on Capitol Hill, which ended with Alexander saying that Gottlieb is **“**well-qualified to lead the FDA. He has held three roles at the agency, been a practicing physician, and is a cancer survivor, so he understands from nearly every perspective the importance of the agency he’s been tapped to lead. I look forward to working with him on implementing the 21st Century Cures Act and bringing safe and effective drugs and medical devices to patients more quickly, protecting our nation's food supply, and promptly reauthorizing the medical product user fee agreements.”
