Consistent Hedgehog Inhibitor Labeling Sought

Duke University School of Medicine dermatology professor Meenal Kheterpal is asking FDA to resolve inconsistencies in labeling through class labeling for all currently approved anticancer hedgehog inhibitors. The petition says that all approved hedgehog inhibitors have the same method of action and have comparable safety data supporting their approvals.

“As a result, in the absence of head-to-head clinical trials establishing differences in product safety, we request that all hedgehog inhibitor products be required to have FDA-approved labeling that carries a warning regarding musculoskeletal reactions and requirements for creatine kinase monitoring as an indicator of muscle damage so that physicians and patients are made aware of the class safety concerns all hedgehog inhibitors pose with respect to muscle damage,” the petition says.
