# Contraception Access Bill Introduced

Rep. **Mia Love** (R-UT) has introduced the Over-the-Counter Contraceptives Act of 2016 ([H.R. 5138](https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/5138/text?resultIndex=26&ref=fdaweb.com)) to “allow women greater access to safe and effective contraceptives.” Under the measure, FDA would be required to give priority review to any supplemental application for a contraceptive drug that **(1)** involves a drug intended for routine use, and **(2)** would be exempt from prescription and labeling requirements for patients over age 18\. FDA would also be required to waive any priority review fee for those applications. Over-the-counter restrictions would still apply for consumers under age 18.
