# Conturais’ Bulkamid OK’d for Stress Urinary Incontinence

FDA has approved a Conturais PMA for Bulkamid for treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI) due to intrinsic sphincter deficiency in adult women who have SUI or stress predominant mixed incontinence. The soft hydrogel comprises 2.5% polyacrylamide and 97.5% water, according to the company. Once injected, it says, (XXX INSERT XXX)the device provides additional volume to the urethra and acts as a scaffold for cells to grow through, helping to provide relief of SUI symptoms.

SUI is caused by a weakness in the pelvic floor, preventing the urethra from closing fully when sudden pressure is put on the bladder. This can allow urine to leak out during normal activities, such as coughing, laughing, walking or exercising.

Bulkamid is currently marketed in more than 25 countries.
