Cotton Asks DoJ Probe of Counterfeit Drugs

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is asking the Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute those who are responsible for “the surge in illicit counterfeit drugs and drug ingredients entering the United States from unregistered foreign entities, primarily in Communist China.” In an 11/19 letter to attorney general Pam Bondi, Cotton says counterfeit drugs and drug ingredients jeopardize the health of all Americans and pose a national security risk, especially when sourced from adversarial nations. He asks Bondi to:

list the actions DoJ has taken with regard to international counterfeit drug and drug ingredient smuggling;
tell whether DoJ is collaborating with other federal agencies to disrupt the criminal organizations; and
indicate what criminal activities are being funded through the counterfeit drug trade.
