Covid Vaccine for Kids Under 5 May Come in June: NBC

NBC News says two people familiar with the plans have indicated that FDA could authorize a Covid-19 vaccination for children under age 5 in June. The report says the agency has asked members of its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee to set aside several days in June for possible meetings.

“The panel members haven’t been told what the tentative meeting will be about,” NBS News says, “but it’s presumed the discussion will involve the topic of vaccinations in the nation’s youngest cohort, one of the people said. The first potential meeting date is 6/1.”

Actual meetings dates are still subject to change, the sources said, especially if the trajectory of Covid cases continues to rise in the U.S. Advisory committee meetings had been tentatively scheduled for May and then dropped.

Clinical trials of both Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines in young children have led to questions about their effectiveness against infection.
