Covidien Recalls Stolen Video Laryngoscopes

Covidien has recalled its McGrath MAC Video Laryngoscope in a move to remove stolen defective models that have been offered for sale illegally by unauthorized third parties. The devices had been previously assigned for destruction, but were stolen and sold on social media platforms, a recall notice says. “After the theft was discovered, some devices were retrieved, and a for sale posting on FaceBook Marketplace was taken down,” it says. To date, the company says no complaints involving the device have been received.

The video laryngoscope is intended to provide a view of the vocal cords during medical procedures, typically a laryngoscopy. The device includes a light source (LED) and miniature camera (camera) to view the larynx.
