# CTTI Issues Antibiotic Development Recommendations

The Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative (CTTI) has published two sets of [recommendations](https://www.ctti-clinicaltrials.org/briefing-room/recommendations?ref=fdaweb.com) intended to advance clinical trials for antibacterial drug development to treat hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (HABP/VABP). A CTTI [statement](https://www.ctti-clinicaltrials.org/news/clinical-trials-transformation-initiative-releases-recommendations-enhance-feasibility?ref=fdaweb.com) says that the new recommendations “outline innovative approaches to designing clinical trials for HABP/VABP, including early enrollment strategies and the streamlined collection of safety data.”

The organization says that it convened multi-stakeholder teams to analyze the challenges associated with HABP/VABP trials and develop the proposed solutions. “The feasibility of these approaches will be tested in an upcoming pilot study,” it says, “the findings of which are expected to help drive adoption of streamlined practices for antibacterial drug development across the clinical trial enterprise.”

CTTI was established by Duke University and FDA in 2007 as a public-private partnership. Funding for this activity was made possible in part by an FDA grant and a cooperative agreement.
