CVM’s Solomon Retiring at Year End

After 32 years at FDA, Center for Veterinary Medicine director Steven Solomon is retiring at the end of the year. He began his career at the agency as a veterinary medical officer in the Division of Surveillance and Compliance, according to an email from commissioner Robert Califf. He then moved to the Office of Regulatory Affairs, where he advanced to deputy associate commissioner in 2013, according to Califf, who appointed Solomon to his current position in 2017 during his first tenure as the agency head.

Califf said FDA is beginning a national search for Solomon’s replacement. CVM deputy director Tracey Forfa will assume acting director duties once Solomon retires and until his replacement is onboard.
