Datascope Recalls Cardiosave IntraAortic Pumps
Datascope has recalled its Cardiosave Rescue IntraAortic Balloon Pumps because of the potential for unexpected shutdown. According to a recall notice, a pump shutdown may occur due to failures of tantalum capacitors in the power management board and solenoid board. This problem could lead to an unexpected interruption of therapy, it says. FDA says it has determined the cause to be related to a “component design/selection.”
In June, Datascope sent a letter to device users that said if a loss of power occurs, then the console will need to be exchanged with another (if available) to resume therapy. It also noted that the firm is developing a hardware correction to address the issue.
