# DePuy Synthes Recalls ‘Exploding’ Surgical Tool Batteries

DePuy Synthes has recalled its Small Battery Drive and Small Battery Drive II Adaptor and Light Adaptor, which are used in the company’s surgical tool systems, due to a potential explosion risk. An FDA [recall notice](http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/SafetyAlertsforHumanMedicalProducts/ucm523001.htm?ref=fdaweb.com) says the battery drives have the potential to produce “extreme internal pressure, which may cause the device to explode. The use of affected products may cause serious adverse health consequences, including death.”
