Diabetes Digital Health Comments

JDRF (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) says it applauds FDA for providing important and needed clarity on the agency’s views on the topic of digital health technologies (DHTs) for detecting prediabetes and undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes. Responding to the agency’s request for comment on the topic, JDRF says digital health technologies “are valuable tools utilized by patients with diabetes, their caregivers, and healthcare providers….. All forms of diabetes would benefit from sharing in the advancement of DHTs for detecting and screening prior to diagnosis. Screening for prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes in adults can result in improved outcomes through lifestyle interventions. Screening for risk in all ages and ethnic groups may also lead to development and approval of preventive therapies.”

In its comment, the American Pharmacists Association says pharmacists play a key role on the healthcare team in providing patient care in this area. “As FDA develops guidance, standards, and best practices, please keep pharmacists and pharmacies in mind as patient partners in developing care using DHTs for diabetes prevention and disease and therapeutic management,” it said.
