DoJ Probing Inspire Marketing, Reimbursement

The Department of Justice has sent a civil investigative demand (CID) to Inspire Medical over allegations of false claims submitted to government healthcare programs for its sleep apnea implant. CEO Tim Herbert reportedly revealed the CID during a 2/10 earnings call but gave few details.

The CID reportedly requests information on the marketing, promotion, and reimbursement practices associated with Inspire’s products. Herbert told investors Inspire would cooperate with the investigation and provide the requested information. He reportedly expressed confidence in the strength of Inspire’s compliance programs and procedures.

The CID was issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota, where Inspire is headquartered.
