Draft Guide on Pediatric HIV Drug Development

FDA has posted a draft guidance on “Pediatric HIV Infection: Drug Development for Treatment” that provides general recommendations on developing drug products for such infections. The document is intended to help sponsors understand when it is appropriate to initiate pediatric formulation development and to begin pediatric studies to evaluate antiretroviral drug products. The agency notes that the guidance does not address the full scope of considerations in the development program and clinical trial designs for antiretrovirals to support an indication for treating HIV-1 infection in adult or pediatric patients.
