Drager Class 1 Recall of Ventilator Battery Power Supply

Drager has begun a Class 1 recall of the PS500 battery power supply for its Evita V500 and Babylog VN500 Ventilators because a software issue causes shorter than expected battery run times. The software bug also prevents the appropriate alarm from sounding five minutes before the battery depletes its power and the device shuts down. If the ventilator shuts down, a patient may not receive necessary oxygen, which could cause patient injury or death. Drager is contacting affected customers to update battery charging software, and replace batteries if necessary.
