Dräger Device Recall Expanded

FDA says that Dräger Medical has expanded its 12/2015 recall of the Evita 500 and Babylog VN500 ventilators to include the PS500 optional battery supply sold for use with the two ventilators. An agency notice says the expanded recall covers power supply units that were updated with new software as part of the initial ventilator recall. “The new software failed to correct the issue depleting the battery and Dräger Medical will now replace all affected PS500 power supply units,” it says.

The agency says that the ongoing PS500 power supply issue could cause the ventilator to shut down unexpectedly, potentially leading to patient injury or death.
