Dräger Medical Recalls Fabius Anesthesia Machines

Dräger Medical has recalled its Fabius Anesthesia Machines due to a potentially fatal production step error. The inhalation anesthesia machines are used in operating, induction and recovery rooms at hospitals and at magnetic resonance imaging settings with patients of all ages. The Class 1 recall was ordered due to excessive oil that was not removed at the time of production. “Such excess oil may interfere with the position detector of the ventilation motor during operation and may cause ventilation to fail,” a recall notice says. “A halt in ventilation may lead to serious adverse health consequences, including patient injury or death.” The company says it is replacing the motors free of charge.
