# Drug, Device Recalls Continue to Go Down: Sedgwick

The Sedgwick recall index for the second quarter of 2021 shows drug and medical device recalls continuing to go down. The report [says](https://marketing.sedgwick.com/acton/media/4952/us-pr?ref=fdaweb.com) that medical device recalls fell for the fourth consecutive quarter, down 18.4% from the first quarter (212 recalls to 173), for a nine-quarter low. Software issues remained the top cause of quarter 2 recalls at 35 events.

Pharmaceutical recalls dropped for the third straight quarter to 59 events, a new low since the fourth quarter of 2015\. Failed specifications remained the leading cause of recall events. The report says that current good manufacturing practice deviations accounted for 97.4% of affected recalled units in the second quarter.
