# Drug Pressor Effect Guidance

FDA has issued a draft guidance, *Assessment of Pressor Effects of Drugs*, to advise sponsors on the premarketing assessment of a drug’s effect on blood pressure. The [document](https://www.fda.gov/downloads/Drugs/GuidanceComplianceRegulatoryInformation/Guidances/UCM609185.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) is intended to address precision of blood pressure measurements when assessing the effects of a drug in development. It recommends systemic characterization of the effect of a drug on blood pressure during drug development.

Contents of the guidance include an Introduction; Background; Blood Pressure Assessment: Short-term Use Versus Chronic Use of a Drug; Recommended Use of Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring; Study Design Issues in Addressing Blood Pressure Effects for Drugs Intended for Chronic Use; and Regulatory Considerations.
