Drug Pressor Effect Guidance

FDA has issued a draft guidance, Assessment of Pressor Effects of Drugs, to advise sponsors on the premarketing assessment of a drug’s effect on blood pressure. The document is intended to address precision of blood pressure measurements when assessing the effects of a drug in development. It recommends systemic characterization of the effect of a drug on blood pressure during drug development.

Contents of the guidance include an Introduction; Background; Blood Pressure Assessment: Short-term Use Versus Chronic Use of a Drug; Recommended Use of Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring; Study Design Issues in Addressing Blood Pressure Effects for Drugs Intended for Chronic Use; and Regulatory Considerations.
