Drug Review Modernization 2018 Central Issue: Woodcock

CDER director Janet Woodcock says that modernizing the new drug review program will be a central theme for the Center in 2018. In a podcast looking ahead to 2018, she says the Center is “looking to react and be able to manage the new science that’s coming forward, all the rapid changes, the great interest of patients and patient-focused drug development, the requirements of 21^st Century Cures that we develop, help develop, drug development tools and qualify them and many other changes that are coming.”

Other issues Woodcock discussed are (1) efforts to implement provisions of the 21^st Century Cures Act, (2) addressing compounding issues, (3) integrating improved technology into the regulatory process, and (4) addressing the opioid crisis.
