Drug Shortages at Highest Level: ASHP

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) says the current 323 ongoing and active drug shortages are the highest number since the society began tracking shortages in 2001. In an online summary with graphs, ASHP says basic and life-saving products are in short supply including oxytocin, Rho(D) immune globulin, standard-of-care chemotherapy, pain and sedation medications, and ADHD medications.

A graph shows that the number of new shortages jumped from 114 in 2021 to 160 in 2022 and then 156 in 2023. So far in 2024, there have been 48 new shortages.
