# Eiger Won’t Seek EUA for Interferon Covid Treatment: Bloomberg

Questions are being raised about Eiger BioPharmaceutical’s decision not to seek an FDA emergency use authorization (EUA) for its peginterferon lambda as a treatment for Covid-19\. Bloomberg [reports](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-08/covid-19-therapy-study-revives-debate-over-lack-of-clearance?ref=fdaweb.com) that a *New England Journal of Medicine* report found that those who were treated with Eiger’s therapeutic had a 51% lower risk of hospitalization than those who received a placebo. The study was challenged, however, because it was published without peer review and there were questions about how it was conducted.

The news service says the positive findings have failed to gain an EUA for the drug even as Covid antibodies have lost effectiveness when facing new mutations.

Eiger has said that based on feedback from FDA it has no plans to seek an EUA. The agency declined to comment to Bloomberg, citing federal disclosure laws and regulations.
