Elekta Recalls Disposable Biopsy Needles

Elekta Instrument is recalling its Disposable Biopsy Needles from one batch (837838839) because they possibly contain some microscopic stainless steel debris on the inside of the biopsy needle. “If debris on the inside of the biopsy needle comes loose, it may appear in the biopsy sample and delay or make examination difficult,” a recall notice says. “There is also a potential risk of debris being deposited in the brain,” adding that long-term functional consequences are unknown. The metallic debris could also cause future MRI scans of the brain to be useless or difficult to obtain, the notice says. To date, there have been no reported injuries and no reports of death associated with the issue.
