Eschoo Reelected as Ranking Dem on Health Subcommittee

Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) has been tapped as the ranking Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, which has primary oversight of FDA and other health agencies. During last Congress’ Democratic control, Eshoo served as chairwoman of the subcommittee. Now, with Republicans in control of the House, Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) has been selected to serve as subcommittee chair (see earlier story).

Eshoo was first elected to the Energy and Commerce Committee in 1995, and has served on the Health Subcommittee for 20 of her 28 years there, according to a release from her office. “In the 118th Congress, the subcommittee will be responsible for passing essential public health legislation to protect our nation’s biosecurity, provide low-cost community health care, improve pediatric and maternal health, support vital medical research, and strengthen Medicare and Medicaid,” she says.
