EUA for BD Combination Covid-Flu-RSV Test

FDA has granted an emergency use authorization for a new BD molecular diagnostic combination test for SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19), influenza A and B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The company says the test will be used on its BD Max molecular diagnostic system. The test uses a single nasal or nasopharyngeal swab sample to identify and distinguish if a patient has Covid-19, the flu, RSV, or some combination of the three. Results are available in about two hours, it says.

“The test helps eliminate the need for multiple tests or doctor visits and can help clinicians implement the right treatment plan quickly,” the BD statement says. “The co-testing approach also helps to increase testing capacity during the busy flu/RSV season and speed time to diagnosis.”
