FDA has issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) to Swedish Orphan Biovitrum for its Kineret (anakinra) injection to treat Covid-19 in hospitalized adults with pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen who are at risk of progressing to severe respiratory failure and likely to have an elevated plasma soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor. Kineret is currently approved to treat rheumatoid arthritis, cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes, and deficiency of IL-1 receptor antagonist.

The EUA [says](https://www.fda.gov/media/163081/download?ref=fdaweb.com) the most common adverse reactions associated with Kineret use are elevated liver enzymes, neutropenia, rash, and injection site reactions. Kineret has been associated with an increase in serious infections in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
