# Ex-CDER Head Cavazzoni Rejoins Pfizer

Former CDER director **Patrizia Cavazzoni** is returning to her industry roots and rejoining Pfizer as the company’s chief medical officer. Cavazzoni spent seven years in CDER’s management, including the past four years as Center director after replacing **Janet Woodcock** who moved to a more senior role in the Office of Commissioner during the pandemic.

In her new Pfizer role, Cavazzoni will lead the company’s regulatory, pharmacovigilance, safety, epidemiology, and medical information and evidence generation, among other medical functions, according to a company statement.

Prior to FDA, Cavazzoni spent almost eight years at Pfizer as head of clinical sciences and development operations. Before Pfizer, she spent nine years at Eli Lilly in the neuroscience product group and as director of its surveillance and epidemiology patient safety group.

Cavazzoni has a medical degree from McGill University and completed a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in mood disorders at the University of Ottawa, where she also received a full-time appointment to its medical faculty.
