Ex-Pharma Sales Rep Debarred Over Juxtepid Prescriptions

FDA has denied a hearing request and permanently debarred former Aegerion Pharmaceuticals sales representative Mark Moffett for his role in persuading physicians to prescribe Juxtapid for statin intolerant patients who had not been diagnosed with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), which is the drug’s approved indication. Moffett schemed to increase his bonus pay for obtaining and retaining Juxtapid prescriptions by falsely representing the patients had HoFY, and causing the false completion of risk evaluation and mitigation strategy forms, statements of medical necessity, and insurance forms that were submitted for coverage, according to an FDA notice.

Last year, a jury convicted Moffett for nine counts of wire fraud and five counts of aggravated identify theft. He was sentenced to 54 months in prison, $1,500 restitution payment, and upon his release from prison, a 36-month supervised release.
