Expedited Development, Approval in 60% of Novel Drugs

A CDER report on new drug therapy approvals in 2019 shows that the Center used at least one expedited development and review method to speed approval for 60% of the 48 novel drugs approved in 2019. The report says that 17 of the drugs were designated for fast track approval, 13 were listed as breakthrough therapies, 28 were given priority review, and nine of the 48 drugs were approved under the accelerated approval program.

In addition, the report says that in 2019 CDER met PDUFA goal dates for 100% of the novel drugs approved.
