# Fast Track for Non-opioid Pain Drug

FDA has granted EicOsis a Fast Track designation for its lead drug candidate, EC5026, for treating neuropathic pain. C5026 is described by the company as a first-in-class, orally administered, potent small molecule that inhibits sEH, a key regulatory enzyme involved in the metabolism of endogenous anti-inflammatory lipid mediators. “Inhibition of sEH treats pain by preventing the breakdown of these natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory fatty acids that then increase within cells to levels sufficient to treat pain,” EicOsis says. The sEH inhibitors have shown efficacy in reducing inflammatory and neuropathic pain in rodent assays**,** it says, without the addictive potential or adverse effects associated with opioids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. EC5026 received IND clearance 10/2019 and the company plans on advancing the drug to a Phase 1b clinical trial later this year.
