Fast Track for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis Drug

FDA has granted HighTide Therapeutics a fast track designation for its investigational new drug, HTD1801, for treating patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), which HighTide describes as a chronic, progressive liver disease characterized by inflammation and fibrosis of the bile ducts, leading to the formation of multifocal bile duct strictures. This cholestatic disease deteriorates to fibrosis, cirrhosis and ultimately liver failure. HighTide says it has completed a Phase 1 study, a multi-center Phase 2 trial in adult patients with PSC is currently enrolling in the U.S. HTD1801 is a new molecular entity and it is also being developed for other chronic disorders, according to the company.
