Faster Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Treatment Cleared

FDA has cleared a MagVenture 510(k) for a faster treatment protocol for its Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and its use in treating depression. The company says the protocol, called Theta Burst Stimulation, will cut treatment time to three minutes per session compared with up to 37 minutes. The FDA clearance was based on data from the double-blind, randomized THREE-D trial in 414 participants suffering from major depressive disorder. “Response/remission rates were 33% for those receiving the new protocol, whereas 50% had an improvement in their depressive symptoms,” the company says. These rates are similar to the standard and longer protocol, it says.
