A Senate Special Committee on Aging 6/3 hearing took testimony that older Americans are at risk of death by poisoning due to faulty drug supply chains. A *Legis1* online [report](https://legis1.com/news/generic-drug-safety-seniors-senate-hearing?ref=fdaweb.com) says an earlier committee hearing looked at foreign generic drug quality and drug labeling transparency.

“Witnesses brought personal and scientific weight to the pharmaceutical supply chain debate, highlighting risks and financial costs imposed by systemic failures,” the report says.

Committee chair **Rick Scott** (R-FL) said, “This country has a big drug problem, and it’s not the one most people are thinking about when they say it. America’s drug supply is not secured, and American patients are in danger as a result. Ranking member **Kirsten Gillibrand** (D-NY) said, “Underlying market factors have led to a race to the bottom where incentives are solely based on cost, not quality.” She called for FDA empowerment and procurement reform alongside supply chain mapping.
