FDA 2024 Guidance Report and Best Practices

Applying lessons learned from the Covid-19 public health emergency in terms of speeding the dissemination of FDA recommendations and policies to industry and other interested parties, agency staff, and patients and consumers, FDA has issued a 2024 Report and Plan on Best Practices for Guidance. The final report follows a 12/28/2023 draft report and plan that drew over 30 sets of comments.

The final report and plan covers:

best practices for the guidance document lifecycle;
best practices for guidance communication/outreach;
updates to FDA good guidance practices regulation;
best practices for using Level 1 guidance “for immediate implementation” and Level 2 guidance; and
best practices for using guidance to streamline the process for regulatory submissions.
