FDA Agrees to Abridged Trial for Wockhardt’s ‘Super’ Antibiotic

FDA has agreed to an abridged Phase 3 clinical trial for Wockhardt’s WCK 5222, a “superdrug” antibiotic, according to the company. The agency’s decision was based on preclinical and Phase 1 clinical data establishing safety and the clinical scope of efficacy for the drug, it says. WCK 5222 is a combination of zidebactam and cefepime, Wockhardt says, adding that it is expected to be a life saving therapy for serious hospital acquired infections such as pneumonia, ventilator associated pneumonia and blood stream infections.
