FDA Approves AkaRx’s Doptelet

FDA has approved an AkaRx NDA for Doptelet (avatrombopag) tablets to treat low blood platelet count in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to undergo a medical or dental procedure. In clinical trials, Doptelet was demonstrated to safely increase platelet count, an agency release says. It adds that the drug may decrease or eliminate the need for platelet transfusions, which are associated with infection and adverse reaction risks. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials were fever, stomach pain, nausea, headache, fatigue and swelling in the hands or feet.
