FDA Approves Aratana Pain Drug for Cats

FDA has approved an Aratana Therapeutics supplemental New Animal Drug Application for Nocita (bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension) to include its use in cats as a peripheral nerve block to provide regional post-operative analgesia following onychectomy. The Animal Drug User Fee Act review date is set for 7/30. Nocita is a long-acting, local anesthetic that provides up to 72 hours of analgesia post-operatively using multi-vesicular liposomal technology, the company says. It was FDA-approved 8/2016 in dogs to provide local post-operative analgesic for cranial cruciate ligament surgery.
