# FDA Approves Expansion of USGI Weight-Loss Procedure Trial

FDA has approved the expansion of a U.S. pilot study of the USGI Medical POSE 2.0 non-invasive endoscopic procedure to evaluate weight loss for adults suffering from obesity and an obesity-related comorbidity. The company says POSE 2.0 uses the USGI incisionless operating platform to strategically place durable snowshoe suture anchors in gastric tissue to both shorten and narrow the stomach. It says the procedure provides volumetric gastric restriction like that achieved by a surgical sleeve gastrectomy without amputating part of the stomach.

In the first stage of the pilot study, five patients were treated at the Mayo Clinic under an IDE granted by FDA. With the expansion, the study will be carried out on 35 subjects at four U.S. institutions.
