# FDA Approves Genentech’s Tecentriq for Lung Cancer

FDA has approved Genentech’s Tecentriq (atezolizumab) for treating people with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have disease progression during or following platinum-containing chemotherapy, and have progressed on an appropriate FDA-approved targeted therapy if their tumor has EGFR or ALK gene abnormalities. Approval is based on data from the Phase 3 OAK and Phase 2 POPLAR studies.

In the OAK study, Tecentriq-treated patients lived a median 13.8 months, which is 4.2 months longer than those treated with docetaxel chemotherapy, according to the company. median survival in the POPLAR study was 12.5 months for Tecentriq-treated patients compared with 9/7 months for patients treated with docetaxel.
