# FDA Approves Janssen’s Simponi Aria for 2 New Indications

FDA has approved Janssen Biotech’s Simponi Aria (golimumab) for treating adults with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and active ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The therapy was first approved in 2013 for treating moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis.

The two new indications were approved based on data that “demonstrated the significant efficacy of Simponi Aria over placebo, while offering a consistent safety profile across all indications,“ the company says. In the study for treating active PsA, patients experienced improvement in joint symptoms and inhibition of structural damage, it says. In the study for treating active AS, results showed improvement in measures of disease activity.
