FDA Approves Large Photodynamic Therapy Light

FDA has approved Biofrontera’s BF-RhodoLED XL, a red-light source for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and its combination use with the company’s Ameluz (aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride) gel for treating mild and moderate actinic keratoses on the face and scalp. The PDT lamp is designed to illuminate large areas to enable simultaneous treatment of several actinic keratoses distant from each other, the company says. The treatment parameters of the device, such as light dose, illumination time and wavelength of light are identical to a predecessor model, BF-RhodoLED.
