# FDA Approves Nexus Generic Procainamide

FDA has approved Nexus Pharmaceuticals’ procainamide HCl injection as a multi dose vial containing 1,000 mg per 2 mL (500 mg/mL) or as a multi dose vial containing 1,000 mg per 10 mL (100 mg/mL). The AP-rated generic equivalent is intended to address a current drug shortage, according to the company. Procainamide is indicated for treating documented ventricular arrhythmias, such as sustained ventricular tachycardia that are life-threatening. “Because of the proarrhythmic effects of procainamide, its use with lesser arrhythmias is generally not recommended,” the company says. “Treatment of patients with asymptomatic ventricular premature contractions should be avoided.”
