FDA Approves Zycosan for Horses with Osteoarthritis

FDA has approved Anzac Animal Health’s Zycosan (pentosan polysulfate sodium injection) to control clinical signs associated with osteoarthritis in horses. An agency notice says Zycosan is a heparin-like compound and is the first pentosan injectable product to receive agency approval.

The notice says that unapproved injectable formulations, including compounded formulations, of pentosan have a long history in horses, but Zycosan is the first injectable pentosan product to meet the agency’s standards.
