# FDA Budgets to Expand ‘Foreign Footprint’

FDA associate commissioner for global policy and strategy **Mark Abdoo** says the Biden administration’s budget proposal for the next fiscal year requests $1 million in new funding to begin the process of expanding the agency’s foreign footprint. Speaking on 3/12 to the 25th Session of the International Medical Device Regulatory Forum, Abdoo said the expansion “ultimately will include reimagined and expanded offices in India and Latin America, an Asia regional office, a presence in Africa, and changes to our Europe office to better manage the wealth of clinical trials that are conducted there.”

In his presentation, Abdoo also listed four aspects of the Office of Global Policy and Strategy’s work:

- advancing international harmonization;
- fostering high-quality standards globally;
- building strong bilateral and multilateral partnerships; and
- combating falsified and substandard medical products.
