FDA, CBP Seize Counterfeit Weight Loss Drugs

Media in Cincinnati, OH, are reporting that FDA and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized $270,000 worth of shipments of counterfeit versions of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Trulicity, weight loss drugs manufactured by Novo Nordisk and Lilly. A CBP spokesperson told the local media that 63 shipments were seized containing counterfeit and unapproved drugs that originated from China, South Korea, India, Italy, Guatemala, the UK, and Canada.

The report says the shipments were intercepted in Cincinnati but were intended to be distributed across several states including Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

An FDA statement said the drugs “have not undergone the proper FDA review and testing, and many contain unknown or dangerous ingredients.”
