FDA Cites GE Healthcare Cybersecurity Issues

FDA says it wants to raise awareness about cybersecurity vulnerabilities in certain GE Healthcare Clinical Information Central Stations and Telemetry Servers that may introduce risks to patients while being monitored. An agency safety communication says the devices are used mostly in healthcare facilities for displaying information such as patients’ physiologic parameters and for monitoring patient status from a central location.

The agency says it is not aware of any adverse events related to the cybervulnerabilities. The notice says a security firm identified several vulnerabilities in certain GE products that may allow an attacker to remotely take control of the medical device and to silence alarms, generate false alarms, and interfere with alarms of patient monitors connected to the devices.
